A trip for dad: Explore New Zealand together

When we're young, our parents carry us through the world – softening its sharp edges, planning trips, saving for holidays and somehow turning the simplest days into enchanted ones. Through their care, the ordinary became extraordinary, and our childhood felt like a storybook written just for us. Now, as adults, many of us dream of returning that gift: to take them somewhere remarkable in hopes to offer back even a glimmer of the wonder they once placed so gently in our hands.

New Zealand's South Island offers the perfect backdrop for those moments. Vast skies, alpine lakes, snowy valleys, and warm farm stays that set the stage for shared adventures – the ones that say thank you in the most unforgettable way. Follow along as Shi-An goes to New Zealand with her father, Yu Beng, to create memories that celebrate love, gratitude, and the joy of travelling together.

Lake Tekapo/Takapō

Share a moment of stillness under the starsa memory you'll both look back on whenever you need to be reminded of wonder. Stand at the edge of a turquoise lake, the Southern Alps reflecting in its still waters, and take a deep breath of fresh alpine air.

As night falls, the sky above transforms into a galaxy of stars. Tekapo is part of the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve, one of the world's largest, making it one of the best places on Earth for stargazing.

Snow Farm, Wānaka

Go back in time and laugh together like kids again, with snowball fights, sled rides, and rosy cheeks. There's just something magical about the first crunch of boots in fresh snow.

At Snow Farm, you can ski, sled, snowshoe, or simply let go and make snow angels. It's New Zealand's only cross country ski area which offers an accessible way to experience winter fun without the crowds.

With an easy 40-minute return trail and plenty of resting spots along the way, this hike offers world-class glacier views - no mountaineering required.

High Country Horses, Glenorchy

Few things feel as cinematic as riding a horse through riverbeds and valleys framed by snow-capped peaks. Based at the edge of Mount Aspiring National Park, this is one of the largest riding operations on the South Island, with treks suitable for beginners through to experienced riders.

Embrace your main character moment as you ride through landscapes featured in blockbuster films such as The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, with expert guides and well-trained horses.

Travel: Gift of Love

For many in Asia, bringing a parent overseas isn't just a holiday – it's a way to say thank you.

In New Zealand, surrounded by vast skies and endless landscapes, Shi-An and her father, Yu Beng (or Baba and Dada, as they fondly call each other) found themselves closer than ever.

And in doing so, they remind us all that sometimes the greatest journeys aren't about where you go, but who you take with you.
