Our alliance with Cathay Pacific covers flights between Auckland and Hong Kong.

For our Airpoints™ members, the alliance means you can enjoy some of your benefits when you book through Air New Zealand and travel on Cathay Pacific between New Zealand and Hong Kong, including earning Airpoints Dollars™ and Status Points at the same rate as you would on Air New Zealand, carry the same baggage allowance, and take advantage of the same Airpoints Elite and Gold benefits.

Note that the alliance with Cathay Pacific only applies to flights between New Zealand and Hong Kong, it does not incorporate flights beyond Hong Kong.

Earning Airpoints Dollars

Airpoints members can earn Airpoints Dollars on services operated by Cathay Pacific at the same rate as they would on services operated by Air New Zealand (between New Zealand and Hong Kong only), if the flight is booked with an NZ flight number. Airpoints members can also earn Airpoints Dollars on services operated by Cathay Pacific between New Zealand and Hong Kong at the partner earn rate if booked with a CX flight number.

Spending Airpoints Dollars

Airpoints members can spend Airpoints Dollars on flights booked with an NZ flight number between New Zealand and Hong Kong, even if they are operated by Cathay Pacific.

Earning Status Points

Airpoints members can earn Status Points on services operated by Cathay Pacific at the same rate as they would on services operated by Air New Zealand (between New Zealand and Hong Kong only), if the flight is booked with an NZ flight number. However Status Points are not able to be earned on flights booked with a CX flight number or any other flight number that does not begin with NZ, such as BA4550.

Airpoints Elite and Gold benefits

Airpoints Elite and Gold members receive the same benefits when travelling on services operated by Cathay Pacific between New Zealand and Hong Kong when booked with a NZ flight number as they do when traveling on Air New Zealand operated services.

Lounge access

Departing New Zealand to Hong Kong: Elite and Gold members may access the Air New Zealand International Lounge, when departing on a booking with an NZ flight number from Auckland to Hong Kong, including NZ4993, NZ4995 or NZ4999 operated by Cathay Pacific. Usual guest allowance privileges for this lounge apply.

Departing Hong Kong to New Zealand: Gold and Elite members, plus one guest, may access the Cathay Pacific Business class lounges in Hong Kong airport when departing on a booking with an NZ flight number to New Zealand, including NZ4992, NZ4994 or NZ4998 operated by Cathay Pacific.

Connecting between Hong Kong and Beijing or Shanghai: Elite and Gold members, plus one guest, may also access Cathay Pacific Business class lounges in Hong Kong, Beijing or Shanghai when they connect to or from a Cathay Pacific flight to or from Beijing or Shanghai.

Other benefits

Airpoints Elite and Gold members travelling between Hong Kong and New Zealand on a booking with an NZ flight number operated by Cathay Pacific will receive the same (or materially similar) loyalty benefits they usually receive on Air New Zealand operated flights.

In addition to lounge access, these benefits include:

  • priority check-in
  • priority boarding
  • priority seating
  • priority airport standby
  • extra checked-in baggage allowance (one piece up to 23kg)
  • a carry-on allowance of two bags up to 7kg each

Upgrades are only available on Air New Zealand operated flights.

The above benefits are not available on any other flights operated by Cathay Pacific, such as between Hong Kong and London, or flights booked with a Cathay flight number (starting with CX).

Elite Partner benefits

Elite Partner members receive the same benefits when travelling on services operated by Cathay Pacific between New Zealand and Hong Kong when booked with a NZ flight number as they do when traveling on Air New Zealand operated services.

Lounge access

Departing New Zealand: Elite Partners, plus one guest, may access the Air New Zealand International Lounge when departing on a booking with an NZ flight number to Hong Kong operated by Cathay Pacific.

Other benefits

Elite Partner members travelling between Hong Kong and New Zealand on a booking with an NZ flight number operated by Cathay Pacific will receive the same (or materially similar) loyalty benefits they usually receive on Air New Zealand operated flights.

In addition to lounge access, these benefits include:

  • priority check-in
  • priority baggage
  • priority seating
  • additional baggage allowance (one piece up to 23kg)

The above benefits are not available on any other flights operated by Cathay Pacific, such as between Hong Kong and London, or flights booked with a Cathay flight number (starting with CX).

Baggage allowance

For journeys between New Zealand and Hong Kong, Air New Zealand's baggage allowance applies. For journeys that start or finish beyond Hong Kong, the baggage allowance of the airline operating the connecting sector may apply. Certain booking classes on partner airlines are not eligible to earn Airpoints Dollars or Status Points. On a partner airline flight, Airpoints Dollars and Status Points may be earned on a flight by flight basis rather than a journey basis. Booking class eligibility and earning rates are subject to change without notice and any changes will apply based on the date you travel. This information does not apply to other airline codeshares.
