Travelling or returning to Australia

If you're planning on flying to Australia, we recommend checking the latest information and advice on travel requirements before you book.

For the latest news and updates, please visit the Australian Government website.

These requirements may change before you travel, so be sure to check regularly. Failure to meet local requirements may result in denied boarding.

1. Check requirements

If you're transiting Australia, be sure to check requirements for any additional countries/regions you will pass through, as well as your final destination.

Entry & transit

  • Check you meet the Australian Government's entry and health requirements.
  • You will need a valid passport. You may also need additional documentation such as a visa, even if transiting.
  • Check if you need an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) here.
  • All travellers arriving or transiting Australia need to complete a Digital Passenger Declaration.

Vaccinated travel

Pre-departure testing

  • Travellers no longer require a pre-departure test to enter Australia. See more.

State and territory arrival requirements

  • Isolation or quarantine requirements differ by state and territory.
  • Your arrival state may require additional documentation or declarations.

Check state-level requirements for your destination:

New South Wales / Queensland / South Australia / Victoria / Western Australia / Australian Capital Territory / Tasmania

2. Complete requirements

Digital Passenger Declaration

  • All passengers are required to complete a Digital Passenger Declaration before departure.
  • You will need to have your proof of vaccination to complete the form.

3. Get travel ready

  • We strongly recommend that you print and keep all your travel documentation with you throughout your journey.
  • Consider purchasing travel insurance that covers COVID-19 expenses.
  • Prepare for what your arrival may look like depending on the state or territory you are travelling to.
  • Air New Zealand's face mask policy requires that all passengers 12 years of age and older (unless exempt) must wear a suitable mask before reaching the boarding gate and on our flights. We recommend packing a few masks for each person travelling - especially for long-haul flights.
  • Plan to arrive early at the airport for check-in to complete pre-departure checks and reach your gate on time.
  • Check if your travel plans with Air New Zealand are impacted by major events on our travel alerts page.
